It was a great pleasure and honour for the Alliance for Peace Research and Diplomacy (APReD) to have been part of the CARE USA-led team that successfully planned and executed the Congressional Learning Tour in Turkana County, northwestern Kenya. The grand purpose of this tour was to check the progress and impact of US foreign investments in Humanitarian and Resilience/Development programs in Turkana County. The visit was also an opportunity to experience and learn how factors such as climate change are disrupting livelihoods and access to nutritious food, and to explore effective programs that work in the face of increasingly unpredictable weather patterns in this region.
I was privileged to interact with Senator Chris Scott Murphy (Connecticut State), Congresswoman Grace Meng (New York’s 6th Congressional District), and Ritu Sharma (Vice President, CARE US Programs & Policy Advocacy). I also took that opportunity to welcome the delegation back home because Turkana County is ‘the Cradle of humankind,’ and ALL humans from every part of the world are always welcome back to their original and ancestral home.
